Special K

The Juan K designed, Karver-equipped K-650 that we showed you drawings of a few months back has finally hit the water, and it looks quite the weapon. This – the newest of the 20-ish footers – is a totally different animal from the light twenties that we’ve been following. We only have the French dealer’s brochure and these photos, thanks to Anarchist pinkfrog, to go on – but the numbers tell the story of a true beast: It’s 21 feet long, with a lead-filled, bulbless daggerboard that pokes down more than seven and a half feet below the surface. It carries a huge square-top main on a rotating carbon spar, a monstrous overlapping genoa and articulating pole with a Melges 24-sized kite – and at 765 kg or nearly 1700 pounds it will need it.
