Bad Welcome

Guatemala’s beautiful Rio Dulce is the country’s biggest
lake. It’s also a near-perfect hurricane hole (for those with the draft),
an idyllic jungle home for hundreds of thousands of indigenous Guatemaltecos,
and a tourist destination for those who like to stay a little off the
beaten path.

Given the dire poverty that most of the country faces, theft and the
occasional kidnapping are a way of life in Guatemala. Still, it’s terrifying
to hear of a sailor getting hacked to pieces in front of his wife – that’s
what happened to this retired couple just yesterday as they were
aboard their newly purchased yacht, getting her together for their first
real cruise
