100 Miler

100 Miler

So after reading the thread
about race coverage and submitting reports, I felt obligated to try to
hack together a recap of our race this past weekend. Not being a professional
at this, read at your own risk.

Saturday dawned bright and
breezy as I made the 45 minute drive to Menominee for the start of the
72nd running of Marinette and Menominee Yacht Club’s “100
Miler.” Alas, I could not go up the night before due to family obligations,
so I have no information on the levels of revelry and/or debauchery. The
rest of my crew weathered the night without any aftereffects, so they
couldn’t provide me with any stories to make this report more entertaining.

The wind was a far cry from
the forecasts put out by both NOAA and Sailflow 24 hours earlier, which
had been calling for a depressing 5-10 knots. Instead, we were happy to
have wind in the mid to high teens all day long, with the typical lulls
in the single digits, quickly followed by puffs around 20.
