Matthew Abato of Hopewell Junction has a rare protein disorder that
prevents his body from producing energy. Sporting a pair of designer
shades and an animated smile, the 12-year-old bounced around in his
wheelchair yesterday waiting for his sailboat to arrive at the American
Yacht Club. "I love the waves," he said. "It’s what makes
the boat rides fun.

Abato, along with around 25 other patients of the Maria Fareri Children’s
Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, were treated to a day of sailing
yesterday at the American Yacht Club. The annual "Make a Memory"
cruise was organized by Sail4Kids,
a philanthropic group at the hospital to benefit the children there. Read
