not strictly a sailor chick, but she sure is enough to make you wonder
if you should have taken up windsurfing, if that’s the sort of
spectators it gets! The PWA Fuerteventura Grand Slam got underway this
weekend and there were day 1 surprises, with Finian Maynard getting
robbed of a position in the race final after being T-boned by Micah
Buzianis and Ben Van Der Steen finishing, unusually, in last place.
The final was dominated by Antoine Albeau, who needed little more than
the first reach before he sat untouched at the front of the fleet.
The women’s fleet saw Valerie Ghibaudo dominate both races to
claim back to back first place finishes. In a similar style, Lee Korzitz,
racing in her second ever PWA slalom event, managed to muscle her way
to finish second in both races. The feat puts rest to any rumors that
her podium finish in the Costa Brava was a one off lucky result. A surprise
result was that Karin Jaggi kicked off the event with a shocking last
place in the first race, and fifth in the second. The World Champion
now sits in ninth place overall, and has work to do to climb back to
her familiar ranks on the podium.
Day 2 saw 3 men’s and 3 women’s races completed over the course of
the afternoon. Antoine Albeau further cemented his event lead by winning
2 out of the three races. Kevin Pritchard won the last of the day’s
races. In the women’s fleet, Valerie Ghibaudo continued to dominate,
winning two more races. Karin Jaggi also claimed her first race win
of the event. This pic John Carter/PWA. More here.
