Wam Bam, See Ya Cam

Luis Doreste’s TP52 CAM started taking on water at the bow during
the final race of the Trofeo SM La Reina course today and sank. Here’s
what happned: This afternoon was the 3rd day of competitiojn in the
Trofeo SM La Reina-Rolex Cup in Valencia waters, Spain and there were
3 TP 52 competing, among them CAM. During the second beat of the day,
going upwind with 16 knots and 2 meters of wave, CAM suffered a break
in her bow. The water started to came into the boat really quickly and
the hole was as big as a person. Suddenly all the RIBS and boats in
the sailing area, as well as the TP 52 TAU (who was sailing back to
shore after a problem with her genoa) turned back to help them but it
was impossible. After over 15 minutes the boat was in the deep Med.
After too much tension and strees, one of the owners ordered the guys
on board to abandon the boat. And then nobody talked again, the silence
was all over the place… That area is over 25-27 meters deep, and the
boat is 28 meters high, so now you can still see the top of the mast
there. Here they try like hell to save
her, and here she
goes. Thanks to Spanish anarchist Helena for the info and to María
Muiña for the unreal shots. More here.
