The 2008
OK Dinghy Worlds
closed today with a victory for New Zealand sailor
Karl Purdie, who has managed to break the 3 year domination of British
sailor Nick Craig. In a tense race 9 Craig sailed well to finish in
4th while Purdie had a nervous 16th. This was just enough to give Purdie
the title even though the last race was abandoned after the skies went
black and a huge thunderstorm bore down on the fleet. Overall, Kiwis
had 3 in the top 10; Purdie, Mark Perrow in 6th and Greg Wilcox in 10th.
Purdie also picked up the veterans trophy while Worser Bay team mate,
Matt Steven picked up the junior trophy. Of the 9 races sailed, 6 were
won by NZ sailors; Purdie, Steve Mcdowell, Luke O’Connell, Alistair
Deaves, Matt Steven and Greg Wilcox.
