Oceans one design is a sawn-off Open 60. It’s got all the goodies:
Canting keel, twin daggerboards, water ballast for trim and a rotating
wing mast. Bostik, the prototype, is currently on a promotional tour,
and I caught up with her in the Dutch port of Scheveningham. The boat
looks fantastic, and has been finished to a high standard, with numerous
clever details in the layout. Finot certainly knows his stuff.
intention is for between eight and ten of these boats to race in the inaugural
SolOceans race next year. If you’re interested, it’ll set you back 1.7
million euros ($2.6 million) for a boat in its round the world configuration,
with a budget of 1.1 million euros ($1.7 million), including all risks
insurance to complete both legs. No projects have been announced yet,
but the organizes are planning a big reveal in December. -Graeme Sutherland.
