Groupama 3 No Go

Groupama 3 No Go

It’s
no to repairing Groupama 3’s damaged float and no to an attempt
on the round the world record this winter. The architects and engineers
have been unable to decide, with any degree of certainty, what caused
the maxi-catamaran to capsize with float damage, during its last RTW record
attempt, though they have ruled out any construction fault. The result
is that both floats will be replaced by ones constructed from monolithic
carbon, instead of a honeycomb/carbon sandwich. Groupama 3 will, as a
result, be a little heavier. This also means that the maxi-trimaran will
not be ready to leave the Multiplast yard until January 2009. More here.
