the back end of 2003, my wife, Louise was diagnosed with Breast Cancer,
and a little later, with secondary cancer of the bones and liver. Louise
and I met through sailing and married in 1997, and we have both been sailing
for some time. The initial chemo, radiotherapy and operation put paid
to Louise sailing and since being diagnosed hasn’t sailed in a dinghy.
Mind you, all through this she has managed to keep working, she even swapped
her chemo day to a Friday so that she would be slightly better for work
on Monday. And while having the initial radiotherapy she used to just
pop out of meetings to have it, truly remarkable if you ask me. But the
working meant that energy for sailing was non-existent !
did manage to get out on the water once on holiday in New Zealand when
we went on one of the old AC boats, which was excellent even though it
was raining. I hate sailing in the rain……!
