Korea
Match Cup – Day 3
Having finished the Round Robin with seven
wins and four losses, we came up against Sebastian Col in a best of three
Quarter Final. Only one race was completed of this series, thick in the
Korean sea mist.

When we stepped onto the boat in the afternoon for our last races of the
Round Robin, we knew we had already qualified for the Quarter Finals. It
was important for our team to build on yesterday’s performance, so
we took these races as a chance to push ourselves and further prepare for
the Quarters that lay ahead.

Our
last four races of the Round Robin were very close. We were happy with
our boat speed and boat handling (despite getting 5 penalties and a black
flag across our first two races) managing to Defeating Bjorn Hanson, and
Sebastien Col, whilst losing narrowly to Ian Williams and Mattieu Richard.

The PRO elected to continue straight into the quarter finals despite finishing
the round robin late in the afternoon. Shortly after beginning our first
quarter final match against Sebastien Col a thick fog rolled across the
race course reducing visibility to 50 metres. We won the start and led
around the top mark, but the Frenchmen were able to reduce our lead and
we rounded the bottom mark in by the narrowest of margins. Col and his
team gained slightly in a close tacking dual up the right hand side of
the course and rounded the final top mark with a narrow lead. We were
able to close his lead early in the final run and overtake. Unfortunately
we lost out with a bad gybe and Col was able to roll over the top of us
half way down the run, sailing on to win the first match of our quarters.

Following
this loss racing was suspended for the day because of the mist. We will
sail the second (and must-win) match of our quarter final against Col
tomorrow morning. Hopefully blue skies are on the way!
