With all the Open 60s in, bar one, and Giovanni Soldini looking untouchable for the Class 40, spare a thought for the unsung hero in this race. Four days ago, skipper of the Class 40 Appart’ City Yvan Noblet, called Race Control to say that he was in 30 knot winds but, although he had serious damage to his boat, he was not at that moment asking for assistance. Noblet prepared his survival suit and life raft, in case the situation worsened and then headed for the French island of St Pierre et Miquelon. The islands, which are 25 kms of Nova Scotia, were then about 440 nautical miles north west of Apart’ City.
Yvan reached his destination yesterday evening, at about 23 h 30 local time, and Jean-Christophe L’Espagnol was there to take pictures for BYM News. More photos here.
