is the impressive Hydroptere,
which will attempt to break the sailing speed record at more than 50 knots.
About to land here.
Here’s what the team had to say:
The assembly and calibration of the measurement system completed, l’Hydroptère
was placed in the water, foils and rear tail unit deployed, this afternoon
at the CNIM dock. The rigging, platform and external parts were studied
in depth and modified in order to bring the boat’s theoretical speed potential
to over 50 knots. One
day will be necessary to affix the sails and to prepare the boat for her
departure. If the weather conditions permit, l’Hydroptère will
sail directly to Marseille, her base during the record campaign. Alain
Thébault and his crew will begin a series of trial sailing sessions
and will progressively take flight in the harbour of Marseille. They hope
to benefit from the ideal sea and wind conditions of Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône,
to show the craft’s reliability and performance with the perspective of
crossing the 50-knot sailing speed barrier.
Grenier for the shots.
