is the best response to our first article from the Cynic ("Starr
from someone who was racing at the Farr 40 worlds, the event is somewhat
of a fantasy camp for owners. Where else in the world can these guys with
a REALLY limited amount of time on their hands be able to race with the
best, against their peers. (Heck most of them work during the regatta)
racing is incredible, a bad driver cannot be "hand held" around
the course (Example: Morning Glory), and the people who sailed the best
enjoyment that the owners get during the regatta is knowing they can show
up with similar (Within reason) boats, and race with some of the best,
against some of the best. Nothing more, nothing less.
I agree the design is outdated, however many of these guys have already
played the IMS, IRC arms race and prefer the stability of a one-design.
Are you saying the Etchells or Laser sailing is lame because it is outdated?
trophies, if you really think these guys are racing for a ROLEX; most
of them already own one. They are fighting for the respect of being able
to be called champion. This is not a sport about the trophies or prize
money, we all know that. It is about respect.
before you accuse me of being a pro, suckling from the teat of these owners,
I am a Cat 1, have always been a Cat 1, and have been sailing with the
same team for 8 years.
