Bird is the Word
We’d
bet most of you don’t know about Bird Boats. From photographer Peter
Lyons:
They
compete in some of the "woodies" races here on the bay, and
unlike the other classic wooden fleets which have some newer boats with
fiberglass hulls, these are all wood… and were all built about 80 years
ago. I believe the entire SF fleet was built in 1929 and 1930. But when
well-cared-for, they can take just about any abuse the Bay can deliver.
I never saw that demonstrated like this past Saturday, when we had sustained winds in the high 20s,
and gusts well over that.
