sucky as things are in the sailboat industry might get, you had to figure
that the power boat end of things was going to be worse, and here it is.
Brunswick Corp. says it’s closing
a factory in Bucyrus (byoo-SEYE’-rus), Ohio. The plant has 285 employees
and will stop production by late May. The Ohio plant will be the seventh
boat factory Brunswick has closed or planned to close since 2007 as it
realigns its business and cuts boat production.
Sea Ray Boats will close
a manufacturing plant and cut nearly a third of its Brevard County
work force because of a drop in the demand. About 400 employees are expected
to lose their jobs locally between June 1 and the end of August, although
some workers could be transferred to Sea Ray plants in Palm Coast and
times, and one has to wonder how bad the sailboat manufacturing end of
things is going to get dinged….
