“Just because you are rich does not mean you can’t win a yacht race, sure the poorer people are better sailors, have nicer friends, are normally very happy and lead fulfilling positive lives, but on the ‘flip side’ is that you have money to employ Barristers, Q.C.’s , Naval Architects, Engineers etc., who can snare you that elusive Yacht race result.”

Part One

I
recently received a phone call from Richard Marks, skipper of "Domesticated
Porridge" a recently launched 198 foot Rykal Pew, Pron: (Reichel
Pugh). This new supermaxi is state of the art with canting keel, canting
rig and a most impressive, canting fridge. Richard invited me to go sailing
with them at the upcoming Keepit Kool regatta at Lake Keepit near Tamworth
Australia. He described my position on the boat as Headsail Trimmer /
Refrigeration Mechanic / Tactics, I immediately jumped at the opportunity,
as word had got around that Paul Elvstrom had chartered a fully optimised
Hood 23 and had his eyes firmly set on this much sought after trophy.
"Domesticated Porridge" had just returned from Sardinia, where
she had won the Maxi World Cup and previous to this had won the Sydney
To Hobart Blue Water Classic. Our owner was keen to complete the Grand
Slam, i.e Sydney Hobart, Maxi World Cup, Keepit Kool Regatta.
