Sailing
Chicks – Also Powered by SA
We
like to think that our unabashed appreciation of the female form in racing
is helping female sailors gain more acceptance in the sailing community.
We long for the day when more than 10% of the racers are chicks, and seeing
events like the Bayview
Women’s Invitational blossom through communication and banter on the
forums makes us all warm and fuzzy inside. Big ups to Mr. Clean
for this and a bunch of other stories for your reading pleasure today!
Another
thing that makes us warm and fuzzy are these photos and party report sent
by SA’er "kitekid," who’s been blasting around in a J/125 (with
a propeller) in the Caribbean. Many of the Caribbean circuit races are
more about the onshore activities than the racing, and we’re cool with
that – kitekid is no slouch. She owns and races her own boat in the states,
and is spending the winter in the islands racing on a variety of hot rides,
and she’ll be sending us her own brand of "where’s Waldo" pics
with the help of the battle flag that she somehow pilfered from her drunken
hosts at the nude bar in Key West. Here’s
her report from the Heineken in St. Maarten:
It
touts itself as the Caribbean’s largest regatta, but it seemed like the
Caribbean’s largest party…
St.
Maarten on a map looks like a large circular Island with a big lake (Simpson
Bay Lagoon) right in the middle like a donut hole. At this event, every
night had a new party at a different venue.
