We
admit to not knowing much about this story, (like what kind of boat) but
certainly found it interesting…

A
couple who sold everything for a ‘dream yacht’ which broke down on its
maiden voyage has finally lost their 17 year battle for compensation.

David
and Caroline Leonard set off in the yacht in 1991 to take them round the
world – but it broke down off the coast of Portugal suffering welding
faults in its aluminum hull.

Three
judges at the Court of Appeal ruled their second attempt to win damages
over the loss of the £400,000 vessel should be struck out. They
also face legal bills in excess of £100,000.

Lord
Justice Wilson, in his ruling, said: "This event has clearly been
one of life’s great tragedies for the appellants; and at first sight one
would have expected them to be able to obtain substantial damages against
one or more of the professionals who had been responsible for the construction
of the yacht."

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard, who now live in the Algarve, first took action against
the builders, designers and surveyors of the vessel. But because of "gross
delay" over their claim, the action was struck out in November 2002. Read
