Battle of the Champions

The
2007 World Match Racing Championship was secured by Ian Williams today
and tomorrow he’ll do battle against outgoing champion, Peter Gilmour
in the final of the Monsoon Cup. Malaysia is hailing it as the "number
2" match racing event in the world after the America’s Cup (sans
lawyers and egos) and they’ve got a point. With Aussie -v- Pom, Old -v-Young,
Outgoing Champ -v- Incoming Champ (who both defeated most of the ISAF
top ten to make the final) and a purpose-built yachting venue which leaves
any regatta lover gobsmacked, this is definitely an event which deserves
to be taken seriously.
