51st International 505 North American Championship

It
took 50 years for Annapolis to finally play host to the 505 North
American Championship, but from October 15-19, the Northern Chesapeake
Bay will finally get its shot. Some of the world’s finest high-performance
dinghy sailors will descend on America’s sailing capital to enjoy the
fall conditions and the acclaimed yachting atmosphere. The event will
be hosted by the Severn Sailing Association, famous for its dinghy sailing
tradition.

October is prime time on the Chesapeake, and rather than battle the
weekend
crowds on the water, organizers thought it best to run the event during
the
week. "We sail rather long courses for a dinghy", says event
organizer Ali
Meller, "and it’s much better when you can choose your sailing
area without
the risk of overlapping with another regatta." With the washing
machine
effect a non-factor, organizers are hopeful for some classic autumn
sailing
weather.
