It’s been a shitty start to racing at Hamilton Island Race Week with slim-to-fuck-all breeze for the biggest fleet ever assembled for Australia’s biggest offshore regatta.  Fortunately there’s plenty to see and do in tropical paradise, and whalewatching was clearly the drug of choice for many during the calms.  Nic Douglass grabbed this shot and there are plenty more on Adventures of a Sailor Girl here.  Clicky to hear Nic’s interviews from today.

We cannot understand why the fuck people are still killing whales, and the fucking Japanese ‘research” slaughter just ended with a tally of 333 whales, 200 of them pregnant females – an increase over the last whale hunt season.  Read it and weep.

We are outraged that the Japanese continue this barbaric “tradition”, and further outraged that there isn’t a significant international outcry against this brutal, inhumane slaughter. Photo from Sea Shepherd.

And every time you right wing fucks bitch about the Sea Shepherds and their brethren, take a look at the pictures and get off your bullshit high horse. If you can’t figure out who the real bad guys are, then congratulations – you have blood on your hands.

whale watching in hawaii

If you thought watching a yacht racing tracker was fun, just wait til you get your hands on this shit!  It’s the Smartmine Whale Watching Map, and it tracks a dozen species of whales around the Hawaiian islands all the time.  With wind and current streamlines and three different views of the ocean, it’s got plenty to play with for those of you cruising the islands or just cruising your desk.

Check it out here, and learn more about these awesome animals at Cascadia, the supplier of the map’s whale data.  Thanks to Giz for the heads up.
