It’s day one of the Red Bull Youth AC, when 10 teams full of teens and 20-somethings will try to tame super-fast 45-foot winged beasts in San Francisco in the summer. What could go wrong…other than the broadcast tv-worshipping stupidity that means much of the world, including the entire US, is blocked from viewing the action live? There’s a solution for that, thanks to AC Anarchy: Check this thread for details and note that we’ve had success using free tools Stealthy for Mac viewing (with a German or French address) and Hidemyass for viewing on a PC.

Sam Greenfield continues to bring us inside the American Youth Sailing Force’s Youth AC team with the video above. Check it out, and then have a look at Force fan Lisa Gentile’s excellent take on the young team below. Then go give them some much-needed sandwich and fuel money, and while you’re at it, follow their Instagram and Facebook pages. If there was ever an American AC team to throw your support behind, this is it.
At the moment their most stressful financial pressures are 1) a $300/per day fuel bill for their chase boat and 2) food. The 9 of them consume 60 eggs every day. That’s just the eggs. Last night I offered to donate eggs but that got me some weird looks. So help me help them the right way.
Their Red Bull Youth Race begins September 1. Please send fuel/food money now for the final push. Why? Because the next generation does have distinct potential for leadership. How will we respond to that fact?

We know Southern California sailors hate to leave town, and for those of you Cup fans who won’t get to San Francisco, GGYC are putting on another Cupdate especially for Sailing Anarchy readers - this one at Shelter Island’s Bali Hai resort. Highlights? Exclusive video, ask your questions of Tom Ehman and Norbert Bajurin, win AC swag for answering easy questions, and most importantly, meet and greet very sexy author Julian Guthrie, who wrote the very entertaining The Billionaire and the Mechanic about Ellison’s long quest to win an America’s Cup.
You can buy a copy at the Cupdate and she’ll sign it – maybe even with a lipstick kiss on the inside cover like we get. Also, some of the nippers on the US Red Bull Youth AC team will be there; great kids with plenty to say.
This will be perhaps the last Cupdate of the cycle, and we can’t emphasize enough how much access these things give you to the guys at the top. If you’re a fan of the Cup, a fan of the book cited above, or a fan of sailing, come check it out this Monday evening. And thanks to Da-Woody for helping to get it all set up. Questions? ASK ->
