Folks a lot smarter than us have been calling our present epoch the ‘Anthropocene’ for a few years now; loosely translated, it means ‘the age of man’, and corresponds to an Earth with reduced biodiversity, increased agriculture, rapidly changing atmospheric conditions, and vastly increased rates of extinction compared to background rates.  But perhaps the most impactful change we’ve made is in the planet’s water supply – that most important substance of all for sustaining life.  Thousands of dams, millions of drains, diversions, and wetlands filled, and hundreds of millions of acres of land dedicated to agribusiness and livestock have made their mark, and this video, created for this week’s conference of the Global Water System Project in Bonn, Germany, gives a beautiful but sobering look at all of it.
