yannWe’ve been pimping the heroics of Yann Elies for quite some time now, and stories like this are the reason why. After dismasting while leading during the first of four stages in this 45th La Solitaire du Figaro, Yann re-rigged and re-entered the race at the start of the second stage and immediately proceeded to school the now 37-boat fleet to earn a near wire-to-wire victory.

Pulling away to a 7-mile lead at the end of the 535-mile stage which went from Plymouth to Brittany via Fastnet Rock, Yann has earned his ninth-ever stage win. With virtually no chance of claiming the overall and securing the elusive Figaro three-peat, the unstoppable force that is Yann Elies has set himself a new goal; to catch up to ‘King’ Jean Le Cam’s all-time record of ten stage wins.

Thanks to Anarchist ‘moody frog’ for the translated heads up in the SA forum’s Figaro thread. Leg 3 starts Sunday, more to come. – Ronnie Simpson.
