New Zealand-based Fitzroy Yachts will cease operations next month, according to its managing director. Rodney Martin told the New Zealand Herald that a lack of new builds has prompted the shutdown. About 120 workers will be impacted.
“Like a large number of our fellow yacht builders, we have felt the effects of the 2008 global financial crisis and its impact on the new build order book,” Martin told the paper. Fitzroy, which has won design awards for its launches, has been in business for 15 years. It is currently completing a 37.5m Dubois performance sloop for a late February launch. Read on.
