broken record

Update: Race #2. Surprisingly, we didn’t see much aggressiveness from Oracle at the start, but unsurprisingly, we watched Oracle once again watch the Kiwis sail over the Horizon upwind to complete a dominant two race sweep, leaving this version of the AC all over but the crying….

We never thought we’d be quoting the AC broadcast team unless we were making fun of them, but Kenny Read had it right – watching the Kiwis destroy Oracle upwind – again – is indeed like listening to a broken record.

One can’t ask for Oracle to have sailed a better first race today – they owned the start, blasted away to a decent lead at the first mark. were smart on the run and rounded with a good lead at the bottom mark, only to watch the Kiwis sails right around them on the beat and go on to a dominant win.

Oracle has to be gutted to know that they have almost no chance to beat ETNZ given their sizable upwind speed deficiency. ¬†Oracle really sails bow down and ass up quite a bit, constantly burying the leeward bow and slowing the boat fairly substantially, while ETNZ seems to have no bad habits at all…

We’d look for some real cowboy tactics from Spithill at the next start later today! Getting Barker to foul is really the only chance they seemingly have…. Photo credit ACEA.
