low hanging fruit
Compared to the America’s Cup/MOD/VOR/VendeeGlobe, the budget for a Tranpac record attempt is piddly. But it still ain’t cheap – especially in a turbo/stretch ORMA 60/73 – so let’s give brand new Tritium Racing sponsor The Lending Club enough hits to show them how worthwhile sailing sponsorship is (and hopefully tell their pals in the brave new world of alternate finance). They’ve got a damned good crew that includes a pile of past record breakers, and a great shot at the incredibly old 1997 record set by a Commodore Explorer that was ancient even then. It stands at 5 days, 9 hours and 18 minutes; just a few hours shorter than Alfa Romeo II’s monohull record. In other words, if they don’t break the boat, they should break the record easily. And we’ll have their reports right here.
