falling down

Louis-Maurice Tannyeres is the first casualty of the 2013 Solitaire Du Figaro; he was plucked from Joanna by the French rescue ship Flamant after busting his shoulder up during a fall.

Often called ‘the most competitive solo race in the world’ by more than a few of France’s best; it’s the Solitaire Du Figaro, and 40-odd one-design Beneteau Figaro 2′s are currently racing the second leg of the event from Portugal to the Bay of Biscay.  What’s fascinating is not necessarily who’s leading (Gildas Morvas is at the head of the fleet this leg) or who’s not (Vendee stars Armel Le Cle’ach sit in third and fifth respectively, while sailing superman Michel Desjoyeaux is well back); what’s incredibly is just how tight this fleet is.  Have a look at the current standings and note how many skippers are within each other’s eyesight.  Track ‘em here and thanks to Alexis Carcourt for the shot.
